This week in Sevilla football
By: Ryan | August 19th, 2007I have to apologize for all of the Sevillistas that are looking for news from our club. I have had a crazy last few days filled with tattoo’s of spanish flags, and the arrival (albeit a day late thanks to the weather) of my three closest Spanish friends who have never been to the United States. So needless to say, this weekend has been one for the records, and since they are here for another week, my posts will be a bit scarce until I get some more time on my hands and I get my La Liga preview done for Center Holds It all while pleasing my ever loving girlfriend Renae and working my normal job.
With that being said, lets take a look at this week in Sevilla, shall we?
Dani Alves was supposed to go to Chelsea, I shed my tear, and then he stayed. So thats all I have to say about that situation.
On Wednesday, a Sevilla minus Dani Alves took on AEK Athens in the first leg of the Third Round of the champions and won 2-0. Goals came from Luis Fabiano and from Kanouté. Jesus Navas is back to being his dominate self, and Capel had an amazing game. I cannot wait to see him play this season as I have already said 200 times this year. He is going to be the next star from Sevilla, you watch.
Thursday saw a bit of interesting news as Juande Ramos talked to a representative from Tottenham Hotspur. What about? Well I could only imagine taking over for Martin Jol after he is sacked after the next Spurs loss. Hopefully Juande will stay put in Sevilla, because lets face it, we need him. He is an excellent manager and more than half of the reason we are sucessful at this point in time.
The rest of the week brought more Dani Alves news and people saying he is going to go to Madrid, blah blah blah.
Sunday Sunday Sunday brought the ‘vuelta’ of the Supercopa de España and what a game that was. Sevilla beat a ‘much improved’ Madrid squad 5-3 with 2 goals by Renato and 3 goals by the Mali sensation himself, Kanouté. Thank GOD we signed him through 2010 because he is simply a goal scoring machine. He comes up HUGE in big games when it counts.
Sevilla saw great play from most of the team, despite the three goals allowed in the game. They showed great pace and will carry this win into the home opener against Getafe next weekend.
That is it for my updates as I need to get some sleep finally. Look for some sporadic updates this week, but a definate prediction for the season to come and also all about next weekend’s result against Getafe.
Cheers!
