So called Derby…
By: Anthony | September 24th, 2008Sorry for posting this a few days late but i was on a “mini vacation” but hey, here it goes…
The highly anticipated Sevilla Derby against Betis ended in a boring, scoreless 0-0 draw. Not only was there no score, but there was also barely any chances. It was truly painful to watch, and i was almost falling asleep doing so. The game as a whole lacked intensity at times, and just wasn’t a proper derby without goals flying in Betis’ net every 2 minutes
Sevilla’s starting lineup was heavily altered for this game, with Capel, Navas, Maresca and Navarro all starting on the bench. The lineup looked something like this:
————–Palop————–
Mosquera - Escude - Prieto - Drago
Adriano - Romaric - Duscher - Acosta
——–Fabiano - Kanoute——–
Did Jimenez underestimate Betis? Was he resting Capel, Navas, Maresca, and Navarro because of fatigue due to their UEFA Cup match on Thursday? Trying something new? Whatever it was, it was shit.. a horrible performance by the whole team, poor tactics by Jimenez, and definitely no way to go into a Derby.
Betis came out strong for the first 5 minutes, then Sevilla had about 10 minutes of dominant posession, then back to Betis for their 5, and after that it was all mixed scrappy play. Sevilla though, had a clear penalty when Acosta was mauled over by Nelson, but nothing was given.
In the second half, Betis was clearly tired and Sevilla dominated most of the play. Another penalty appeal was ignored when Nelson (yes again) bulled down Adriano.
The score ended 0-0, in an agressive but yet boring derby.
