So I still don’t understand how that building up to the season we were considered one of Spain’s best sides and probably the best of “the best of the rest” in La Liga but after losing one match, the critics come out like we’re looking like getting relegated. Nonsense. Sure we lost, but it was to Valencia at the Mastalla who are one of our major rivals and one of the best sides not only in Spain but in Europe. Don’t let their financial troubles fool you, they still have one of the best attacks in La Liga.
Last match we seemed to lack in the attacking department as Kanouté was sent off and Romaric limped off injured.
Today we have a boost in attack as Renato and Adriano return to the squad which should solidify our midfield a bit – something we lacked two weeks ago.
Out for us unfortunately will be our new right back Sergio Sánchez due to illness meaning Konko will most likely get the start.
Today is truly a day for new boy and club record signing, Alvaro Negredo to prove his worth in Nervión as he gets set to start in place of the suspended Kanouté. A strong performance by Alvaro could give Manolo a bit of a selection headache and set the team back on track as we look to prove that we truly are one of the best teams in Spain.
The squad for today’s match is as follows:
Palop, Javi Varas, Konko, Fazio, Squillaci, Escudé, Fernando Navarro, Adriano, Renato, Duscher, Zokora, Acosta, Lolo, Jesús Navas, Diego Capel, Luis Fabiano, Negredo, Koné and Perotti.
Playing at home we’ve generally been hard to get points from and hopefully today will be no different as we play our first match in El Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán this season and of course, set out to make the fans happy. Once again Jiménez’ tactics will be key as he approaches this match against a Zaragoza side which definitely can’t be taken lightly.

that was a much more enjoyable game to watch than the last one. i know valencia’s good, but we were just a much better team today than in our first game. i love to watch us just bomb down the wings like that, and we’ve got the talent to make it extremely effective. i hope as we get more comfortable this season we continue to pick up the pace and tempo.

didn’t get to see the game today, but very happy about the result and the apparent domination. i know they were the easiest team in the group and we were at home, but it’s nice to have gotten the 3 points as we were supposed to, and without struggling, as we were supposed to.
