Sevilla v Real Madrid Preview; Sunday 1pm GolTV
By: Anthony | April 26th, 2009
It’s that time in the season again. Personally my second favourite fixture in the year (only to “el derbi” against Betis) because 1) We’ve absolutely dominated it in the past few seasons and 2) Winning it is probably the most satisfying feeling ever.
I cannot put my displeasure in regards to everything about Real Madrid into words. I’m not sure if it’s the glory hunting fans (what glory? Not too sure…), their boring style of football, or the sheer ignorance of the upper management who walk around Europe looking to buy any player with a ridiculous price tag.
Whatever it is, the hate is there and I can’t emphasize that hate enough.
We return to Nervión after an embarrassing 3 game loss streak and we definitely believe that we can turn things around tomorrow when we take on the mierda.
It’s probably the most important match in regards to finishing the season for us because we currently sit in that third Champions League spot with 57 points, 1 ahead of fourth place Valencia who drew with Barcelona just earlier today.
Last match against Barcelona in the Camp Nou where we were embarrassed 4-0 we started somewhat of a different lineup with Koné lining up alongside Luis Fabiano, Javi Varas in goal for the suspended Andrés Palop, and Diego Capel getting a rare start (doesn’t get many these days) on the left flank. It seemed like subconsciously Jiménez knew that Barça was just too strong a side to beat and as a result he rested Kanouté so he would be fresh when we play the mierda this weekend.
Nothing would make me happier than a win against our former money grabbing coach Juande Ramos who left us hanging last season when he searched for greener pastures in England. A win would also potentially end the title race for the capital club who sit 7 points adrift from leaders Barcelona.
Some good news for us here as the mierda’s mierda defender Pepe has been suspended 10 matches for a random violent outburst against Getafe and will not play. Robben, Heinze and Sneijder are all out with injuries and Huntelaar will undergo a last minute assessment to see if he is fit for the match but is still a huge doubt. Higuaín picked up a yellow card last match but of course since he plays for the mierda it got rescinded and he will be able to play.
Sure we’ve lost the last three matches but it’s a whole different ball game when we play the mierda at home, the crowd gets behind us like it’s a derby matchup and especially this time with Ramos showing his face after ditching us, no doubt it will be one for the ages. It’s obvious for anyone who watches fútbol that Real is probably the luckiest team ever (perfect example – last match against Getafe) but luck can only last so long and I think we’re in a perfect position to end that lucky streak. With the atmosphere of the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán and the tension built up between the two squads from the reverse fixture where we got a late winner through Renato, we can definitely get all three points and move onto next week’s match against Villarreal with the utmost confidence.

Pathetic. No offense but the way you guys are playing, say hello to 5th place by the end of the season.

5th place is definitely a possibility with the uninspired 2nd half play. god awful passes and turnovers doomed us today (i only saw the 2nd half though). jiménez, i hate to say, will likely be leaving even if we finish 3rd this year because we have failed to beat any of the top 3 teams down the stretch. we really needed to win at least one of those games to keep our heads up and to keep fighting. now, the only thing i feel is nervous. here’s to hoping villreal remains inconsistent and we can steal 3 points from them.
i wish we would have beat them today for sure, but what i’ll remind myself of is the great afición de nervioneses and the fact that even when losing a match to RM, sevilla FC will never lose its soul like RM has. anímaos!! vámanos campeones!! la meta está por conseguir todavía!! a por los submarineros!!

anyone who watched the first 30 minutes should realize that sevilla should have ended the game then. we got one goal but should have had 2-3. AGAIN we didnt take our chances, and then real turned the tide, got a very nice goal just before the half, and we apparently decided not to show up to hte second 45 minutes.
blame jimenez if you want, but the players didnt finish today, and that is not all jimenez’s fault. very frustrating.
the sky may be falling, but it hasnt hit the ground just yet. we stil own the 3rd position and we’re through the hardest part of our schedule.
villareal and valencia still play eachother. and villareal needs to play barcelona AND real madrid (and us at home)
Valencia must also play real madrid and atletico (who may challenge for the 4th spot, but will at least be motivated to be sure to qualify for europa).
we should still finish top 4, and id still put money down that we finish 3rd (though valencia may give us a run).

SRH–i agree with you that this isn’t necessarily jimenez’s fault, and that the sky hasn’t fallen all the way to the ground. and i agree that we’ve still got a pretty good shot at 3rd–after villareal, our last 4 are all winnable, even with our recent poor form.
blaming jimenez or no, though, i think if we finish anything less than 3rd, he’s definitely gone. and if there’s a great coach on the market (hiddink is leaving chelsea after this year, right?), i’d say jimenez will be gone even with a 3rd place finish–we’d have CL money (for the summer transfer) and CL exposure to promise any coach, so i have to think we’d be an attractive place to land.
like aaron said, we lost to valencia, real madrid, and barca (by a combined score of 11-3) in the final stretch of the season, at a time when we desperately needed points. i just can’t see sevilla’s management (or fans) being content with not at least challenging the other top teams, OR a late-season meltdown that completely undoes a season of success.
forgetting all of that, though, the villareal game is going to be crucial–we need points, but we also just need a positive result to stop the bleeding. here’s hoping we can turn it around!
¡vamos mi sevilla, vamos campeón!
