Sevilla v Racing Santander Preview – Sunday 1pm GolTV

By: Anthony | January 24th, 2009

My apologies for being away from my beloved blog for a few days now but being pretty sick combined with exams has meant some extreme fatigue overall.

Anyway, I’m back now, and so is Sevilla, considering that is, if we can bounce back from that shocking loss mid-week at the Mastalla.

Tomorrow we return back home to take on a Racing side that hasn’t lost in 5 straight league matches. Now, the Santander club aren’t exactly playing to the same standard they were last year when they qualified for Europe for the first time in their club’s history, and they currently sit at a respectable 10th place in the table.

Although this game seems like it should be easy enough for us to finish we’re going to overcome a few difficulties.

We have Abdoulay Konko, Lautaro Acosta, Aldo Duscher, Jesús Navas, Aquivaldo Mosquera, Crespo and Fazio injured and will miss tomorrows game. Quite the extensive injury list…

Jiménez has said he will probably field the same lineup that we saw Wednesday against Valencia with the possibility of a few kids getting their debut’s.

Good news though as Kanouté is back and almost at full fitness and will most likely start along Fabiano up top tomorrow. I’m not sure if starting him is the smartest thing considering Racing isn’t exactly the toughest opposition and also considering we have to play Valencia again at home next week in the return leg of the Copa del Rey.

We have Chevantón back now so why not start him alongside Fabiano for a match or play Renato in that attacking role behind Fabiano. Pukki, the Finnish sensation from Sevilla Atlético in my opinion should also be given a shot, I mean we really have nothing to lose and I really believe in youth getting a shot, we may have a gem on our hands.

I can see a 2-0 result going our way with Fabiano and Romaric getting one since he is overdue. I also think it’s safe to say (if no one knew it by now) that no one is going to catch Barça, so although I don’t want to slip out of our Champions League spot, I really think that we can afford to slip up every once in a while here and there.

The reverse fixture which was actually our first game of the year ended in a 1-1 draw in Santander which was somewhat of an unfair result considering we dominated most of the game.

Although we can afford to slip, I’m obviously hoping we kill off this game and maybe with a little luck from Depor defeating Real we’ll secure that second place spot all to ourselves.

U know i have a random question for u. Why did u guys yell out “pestero” to alves earlier when barca visited the Sanchez Piguain (or however u spell it)? Wasnt he a commited player? He should be able to leave without fealing the wrath of the sevilla fans.

Nothing, please grow up. When players leave their club to join another team and then when those two teams play, the fans from the players former club always give the player stick. You’re going on like it never happens. It wasn’t the fact that he left, it was the things he did before he left, honestly I have no clue what you’re going on about.

Run along now and go back to glory hunting.

I must say I think that Sevilla need to make some major changes, as they look extremely disjointed as a team, and lack much technically. Following rubbish results/performances against Osasuna, Racing and Valencia, I think the manager is very poor tactically and his selections are weak. Romaric has the ball control of an elephant as does Dragutinovic, who is one of the most shocking fullbacks and top European football. The forward line always seems to be starved of saervice, from an overrated midfield (Renato is extremely inefficient!!). Overall I used to think Sevilla were a good side, however now think there current team is useless, playing dire football, bring back the old Sevilla, and sack half of that team now!!!!

I agree Craig, I’ve lost all faith in Jiménez. Like i just said in my latest post, I’m just looking forward to seeing Pukki more, the kid shows tremendous amounts of potential. Things need to be done this summer, but I do know Jiménez’ days are numbered. We have the talent, he just doesn’t know how to deal with it.
