Sevilla v Mallorca Preview

By: Anthony | September 22nd, 2009

OFabuloso returns to the squad after picking up an injury in our Champions League clash and no playing against Osasuna in Pamplona where we triumphed 2-0 just 3 days ago.

Despite Kanouté and Negredo’s prominence, Fabiano’s return to the squad is a huge return as he’s been on absolute fire for both club and country. He’s already got two goals in the league which for him has only been two matches and one in the Champions League. The competition we have up front is incredible and if he continues his form it’ll continue to push Negredo and Koné even harder to crack the starting XI.

This match will be interesting – Mallorca have been on a good run of form and find themselves in fourth place coming into this match and we started with a bump but have been more than convincing since and find ourselves in 6th with 6 points.

We really don’t have a good record against Mallorca to be honest so anything can happen but with the form we’re in I expect nothing less then all 3 points. Being at home behind our amazing fans as well, a victory is a must.

we looked pretty great out there for the first half (that was all i was able to watch today). watching fabiano and navas working it down the side on the second goal was a thing of beauty. the good thing, with all of our excellent wing players (navas, perotti, capel, adriano, sánchez…) is that one of them is bound to have an excellent match, while some of the others may not play their best (see capel today). but since we have such quality, they will create enough danger on their own to get us goals. y así es.

it’s a bit early to worry about where we sit in the table, and being in a good spot now will only lead to the “FIRE HIM!!!” screams if/when we drop a little during the season. and besides that, i’m more encouraged with our play (at times) than results so far this season. having said that, though, with valencia and athletic’s losses today, we’re sitting very nicely in third place after 4 matches.

our next three games (away to athletic bilbao, away to rangers, home with real madrid) should be very interesting and challenging, and be a great chance to send a message to la liga. here’s hoping the ankle-hacking thugs of bilbao don’t cripple us too much before those other two contests.
