Sevilla v Getafe Preview, Sunday April 12
By: Anthony | April 12th, 2009
We look to keep up our amazing league form against a struggling Getafe side this Easter Sunday in El Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.
So it’s needless to say really that even despite what I had to say in my last post, we probably have no chance at the league title this year and since we also dropped out of the UEFA Cup and Copa del Rey, we have one objective – Champions League qualification. We currently sit in third place with a massive 57 points and this combined with the fact that (thanks for the stats Aaron!) Villarreal has lost 3 of their last 4 in the league, Málaga was winless in 4 of 5 before upsetting the Yellow Submarine yesterday afternoon, Valencia has only won 2 of their 7, and Atlético has one of their last four. We have been steadily pulling away for about a month now having won 6 of 7. only the mierda has a longer winning streak, pretty impressive stuff in my opinion. Having said all that, we’re probably in as good a position as any to qualify for next years Champions League but tomorrow’s match against Getafe will either be one where the visitors from Madrid realize they’re probably going down and fight with everything they have resulting in us having to really earn it or we’ll just play like we have of late and add another exclamation mark to “El Sevilla Campeón”.
The reverse fixture last year in Madrid ended 2-0 for us with Luis Fabiano grabbing the first goal and De Mul scoring the second which was also his first ever while wearing the rojiblanco.
Getafe has lost four of their last five league matches and things won’t get any easier when they come to play the (second) hottest team in La Liga right now.
This was always going to be an extremely difficult task for the visitors but it gets even worse for them as Julien Escudé and Luis Fabiano are both back in the squad after their minor injuries which kept them out for last week’s win over Recreativo in Huelva. It looks as if Duscher and Konko are both still recovering from their respective injuries and will be game time decisions by Jiménez as to whether they play or not.
The official squad named for tomorrow’s match is as follows: Javi Varas, Palop, Mosquera, Dragoutinovic, Squillaci, Escudé, Adriano, Fernando Navarro, Fazio, Maresca, Renato, Romaric, Capel, Perotti, Jesus Navas, Luis Fabiano, Koné and Kanouté.
It’s needless to say that our big star Fredi Kanouté will look to keep up his stunning goal scoring form seeing as he’s now made Sevilla history having scored as many as Croatian legend Davor Sukur. With his partner in crime, Luis Fabiano back Getafe’s back line is going to be a very busy one also seeing as Navas has been in-form of late as well. With Navas’ deadly pin-point crosses, Perotti’s or even Capel’s quickness and Romaric’s solidity throughout the centre, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t walk all over Getafe tomorrow.
I think Goal.com (shame on me, yes I know) said it best here.
PREDICTION
Getafe will be fighting for their right to stay in La Primera and have much to lose in this match. Unfortunately for them, they could well lose the match as well. Sevilla are determined to secure their Champions League berth and are much too dynamic a side at home. A buzzing Sanchez Pizjuan should prove to be too much to overcome for Los Azulones.
Sevilla 3 – 1 Getafe
Sounds about right to me folks.

You’ve gotta remember that getafe are still a good side and the phrase ‘too good to go down’ comes to mind/

It’s true, they do have a quality squad and were have back-to-back Copa finalists for the past two years. Still though, they’re struggling of late and their manager isn’t helping. I can’t see us losing with the current form we’re in. Cocky maybe, realistic, most definitely.

lol a madrid lol a madrid
It is crystal clear that this club is in constant decline. Slowly but surely the once mighty have fallen. They have flopped horrendously in Europe for the last 5 years. Gone are the days were AC milan, barcelona, manchester utd would fear real madrid and pray to god that they avoid them in the champions league. We are now living in the days were Italian, german, and french clubs easily dispose of real madrid.
Madridistas will always hang on to the fact that they have won 9 champions leagues. I say congratulations, but plz know that nobody is fooled. 5 of those cl were the first european cups ever staged, it was during the days were the competition was weak. Look at them now, failing to reach the quarters for 5 straight years.
This year the evidence is there for all to see, Madrid are no longer an elite club. In fact, they are as good as aston villa and fiorentina at best.
People again will mention the 13 wins out of 14 in la liga, but I am not fooled. This is because the quality of teams in la liga has clearly deteriorated. I have watched madrid many times these season because my friend is a madrid fan and i watch it with him. I see them playing double pivots against racing santander and osasuna, which is the only reason they are not conecing many goals. When you face teams that are not so great in attack, and choose to play with a double pivot, and u are lucky to have a great goalkeeper, then you will keep cleansheets by default, mainly because the other teams will not attack you much. With all the quality attackers madrid buy, they are bound to score.
Clearly many fans were naive and let the numbers fool them. Before the first clash against liverpool, fans worldwide were claiming madrid are great again and will win the cl and will roll over liverpool. I was not fooled, and I knew they would get embarassed by liverpool, and they did.Posted from

what a downer. only saw the last 20 minutes but we were completely dominating and gave up a goal while having 75% of the possession. of course, all that possession included several 6-yard box headers that fabiano sent wide. cut that ridiculous looking hair off and start playing football! we deserve better from him. kanouté would have put all of those away.

Jesus man. Even when we get a critical three points on the road…and where’s Sevilla? Rotting away vs. Getafe. It was intentional, wasn’t it? Just trying to make us dozen Betis fans outside of Spain suffer more. Well, my nerves are frayed enough. Stop it already. Go to UEFA and beat those at the lower rung of the table. Am I asking so much? My God…not even an Easter present from you bastards.
!Musho Betis!
