Sevilla v Fenerbahce-What better place than here, what better time that now?
By: Ryan | March 3rd, 2008It has to start somewhere. It has to start somehow. What better place than here? What better time than now? -Rage Against the Machine
(Sidenote: I’m not one of those people that’s going to type my life’s problems to you all on the internets. I’m sure none of you really care to read it anyway. To make a long story short, 80 hour works weeks (40 Ph.d 40-3 part time jobs to make ends meet) really takes a toll on anyone. Plus, an immediate family member’s idea to take their own life will just put the icing on the cake.)
With that being said, I’ve been out of the loop for the last week and haven’t read much about what’s going on in Sevilla. The shocking 2-1 loss against Depor are the kind of losses you need to avoid, especially when going into a Champions League tie that could spell the end of our season in Europe. Now we are back down in 7th place, something that isn’t going to sit well with Del Nido. I can just hear him now, screaming about how we are going to sell off the entire team.
The one thing we have going for us is the game will be home. Manolo Jimenez said ‘La afición nos llevará en volandas al triunfo’ (Our fans will carry us to victory).
I know the Sevillistas will be out in full force tomorrow in Nervion. And I know that yours truly will take some comfort in watching my Sevilla play in what is an incredibly trying week in my life.
Please leave your comments. I’ll be along to read them shortly. Let me know your take on the game.
¡Vamos mi Sevilla…Vamos CAMPEON!
(PS I just added this video today, but seriously, watching this video gives me the goosebumps…literally)

Actually, it was Del Nido who said the fan thing. Shocking, I know.

Get better, man. I’ve had a very similar sort of week a few times in the past, and football is hardly a cure, but it can be a great distraction. Good luck to Sevilla, and take care of yourself.

VAMOS MI SEVILLA! I’m sure the nervion will get us over the line at the Pizjuan. Ryan, are there many other Sevilla supporters in Australia?

Ryan, in the past year I’ve had a friend commit suicide and an in-law try to. It’s hard but it’s times like these that we need momentary distractions to discharge. I sincerely hope Sevilla win. My support is yours.

Ryan, Hi, I just found your website by browsing around. I don’t know you, but I hope things get better for you. I’ve actually been looking for some Sevilla blogs and did not have much luck.
If you are interested, we have a Fenerbahce website in English (the world’s first!). It’s also in Turkish and Portugese with Spanish coming soon. The website is http://www.fenerbahceworldwide.org. If you want to read a bit on your opponents today, in English, please check us out! Thanks and good luck - I am expecting a good futbol game today regardless!

@ Everyone..thanks for the wishes.
@ Nathan–I’ll be sure to give it a look.
@ Oliver–I’m not actually sure about the supporters in Australia. I will do some digging with some friends I know and see what they have to say!

Well, that stunk. It’s been that kind of a season, eh?
I’m over the moon about my number-one club (Arsenal), but the same old problems for the sevillistas reared their ugly heads. Specifically, defending set pieces. How many times have they lost matches this year on set pieces?
Anyway, I’ve been working all day and I’m in class right now, so I didn’t get a chance to see anything except for goal replays, but I will say that they do not have anyone to blame but themselves. It should not have come down to penalties. I give the boys from Istanbul all of the credit in the world, but it’s painfully obvious that this team does not have the depth to do battle on multiple fronts. And that was before the unfortunate occurrences of injuries and deaths.
Well, now it’s time to focus on the league and getting back into this competition next year. The gap is five points with 12 matches to play.
Hope to chat soon!
