Sevilla 0-Zaragoza 2…The Hurting Continues
By: Ryan | September 29th, 2007Sevilla 0 – Zaragoza 2, thats all I really need to say.
I don’t have to repeat that Zaragoza is a team that was down with 5 points in the league, and not showing a terrible amount of promise.
But Sevilla, unfortunately, is in a free fall. And we are spiraling out of control.
I started on the game about 27 minutes in, and the possession was similar. Zaragoza was not showing any promise, and actually did not have any shots in the first half. Sevilla had a few chances but couldn’t finish. It was all in all a boring half.
The second half saw some chances for Sevilla, but again they couldn’t finish. Kone was all alone with just a defender to beat, but they couldn’t put the ball into the net. Kanouté missed a golden opportunity in his first touch of the game.
A team that couldn’t miss the net last season and now we cant win a game. It’s disheartening to watch a team that has talent like Sevilla does to go down to Zaragoza. Sevilla hasn’t changed the troops much since last season, in fact, just bringing a few players in and losing only 4 since last season, most notably Aitor Ocio.
I really don’t know what is going on with Sevilla right now. After the Arsenal game I expected them to bounce back, but we ended up Losing a close one to Barcelona, 2-1. Then we lost in the last 2 minutes to Espanyol 3-2 and now this loss puts us at 4 in a row.
I don’t want to see a shake up at the Sanchez Pizjuan. We need to stick with what got us here. Don’t start changing the entire lineup or crying wolf yet.
I do have to say that we should play Kone and Kanouté side by side in a 4-4-2 situation. I think playing the one up front doesn’t allow for Kone to work well with the rest of the squad and sometimes he gets a bit stranded.
It will be a good test to see how we can bounce back in the Champions League against Slavia Prague in Sevilla.

I feel for your team, Ryan. Really, I do. They’re much better than this; in fact, they’re so much better than this that I can’t help but wonder what’s going on in the background of all this.
That said, your comment about the Barcelona game was off base, I thought. Close? There was very, very little that was close about that game. You didn’t write up a post about it, so I don’t know what your thoughts on it were (though I’d be interested), but Sevilla struck me as being too defensive against Barca; according to Phil Ball they’ve reverted to all-out-attacking, which is nice, but they just can’t score, which is the next step.
I haven’t seen any other Sevilla games, so I can’t say what’s wrong with them, but whatever it is, I hope they get over it soon.

As for the close comment, it was a 2-1 game…regardless of the actual pace of the game, they didn’t lose 4-1,
They will hopefully get over it soon, only time will tell though.
