Real Madrid v Sevilla Preview – Sunday, 3pm GolTV
By: Anthony | December 6th, 2008
Ok, so I was going to do a conventional preview stating my opinions on how horrible Real are this year and how we’re going to go into the Bernabeu and absolutely smash them but I thought “man, thats just mean” so I contacted my buddy, Adam, over at RealmadridTalk on oleole, asked him a few questions, and got a few answers…
This doesn’t take away from the fact however that I still think Real are horrible this season and we’re going to walk into el capital and come away with all three points. I thought we had a huge injury list… but damn, Real’s is way worse (not like I care).
Here it goes…
1- How are Real Madrid currently doing in terms of performance?
Well, as you know, we are on the skids at the moment having lost many points in the league and humiliated by Juventus twice in the Champions League. Also injuries have had a role in all of our poor results, but this is football. However, still I think we have improved a bit.
2- Who do you think are the most effective, consistent and dangerous players on the Real squad that Sevilla should be aware of?
If I may say, you are lucky because Ruud and Robben are injured, well, the later might be able to play. They are the most effective players we have. There is also Van Der Vaart who hasn’t seen much playing time recently. But if there is one you need to be aware of, then it is Guti – he is unpredictable.
3- Can you update us on injuries or suspensions that any Real players might have?
Our sickbay hosts about 10 players and they are: Ruud, Torres, Pepe, Sneijder, De La Red, Higuain, Cannavaro, Diarra, Robben and Heinze. However, three of those could make the Sevilla match and they are: Robben, Higuain and Cannavaro.
4- What do you think of Sevilla at the moment?
To be honest, I haven’t been following Sevilla that much lately, but they are always good. They play as a group and they play good football. I think they had many difficulties last season but they could do much better this season. Nevertheless, I was disappointed when Barca won 3-0 the other day.
5- Do you think that Kanoute will be influential as he was in the 5-3 game at the Bernabeu (Spanish supercup)?
Kanoute is a good player. He is good in the air, he is dangerous inside the box, but if Cannavaro is going to play, I wouldn’t be much worried. He knows how to deal with him although Fabio is shorter. Nevertheless, Kanoute will still be a big threat and I guess Schuster already knows that (if he doesn’t, he must be an idiot).
6- Last but not least, what is your lineup and prediction for the game?
With many players still doubtful for the match, it is pretty difficult to have a good lineup, but in most cases, it would be something like this:
Casillas,
Salgado, Ramos, Cannavaro, Marcelo
Gago – Guti
Robben/Drenthe —- VDV
Raul —- Saviola/ Higuain
As for the prediction, I’m gonna predict a 2-1 win for Real, because I believe this is not an ordinary match. Yes, Real are going through a bad spell at the moment, but sometimes they are unpredictable. I’m also a little biased here (well, not really) – I think Sevilla will give a hell of a match and ….. good luck to both teams
So anyway, it’s needless to say that I disagree with a lot of that but it’s just a little background info on Real from a true Madridista. I really do not have much to say about the match, but I will when it’s over… Until then Sevillistas

Good interview and good luck to you guys! It’s a shame that Fabiano will not be able to play but with your defense, I don’t think Madrid will do much when it comes to offense. You’ve also got Capel and Kanoute. They should provide you guys with a ton of scoring opportunities.
