Noticias Del Día–Navas Contrakt Talk, Tough Love, Free Stuff, A Fitting Tribute
By: Ryan | October 25th, 2007
(Just a note, I think lol cats are hysterical, and upon my finding a site where I can do my own, God help us all. But then I’m a linguist, and we have warped senses of humor)
With that being said, here is the Noticías del Día
—#7 in your programs, #1 in your hearts! Contract talks are reported between Sevilla Right Mid Jesus Navas and the club. In case you don’t know, Navas has acute homesickness, which means he feels like you did the first night away at summer camp, every time he leaves Sevilla. He has been undergoing treatment for this and reports are he is making progress. He even was able to travel to the US last summer to play in Chicago. Navas has been under the same contract for years and recently complained that he wanted a new contract.
The disclaimer on this development is that is reported by Goal.com. Here is the thing with Goal.com. I’m sure there beat reporters aren’t out there combing the Spanish countryside for news stories. Thus, when I find it in print in Spanish, I’ll be MORE likely to believe it. Also, Goal.com I’m sure just does the translations and NEVER cites the original source, which I find to be a bit shady.
My prayers are answered.
–Juande Ramos gave Sevilla some tough love after the 2-1 win against Steaua on Tuesday. After the game, the ‘Man from La Mancha’ quipped
”We had a excellent first half, but the second half was uglier, maybe overconfidence had something to do with it. Steaua got back into the game because we couldn’t score the third goal.” (my translation)
Tough love is in order for the rojiblancos, who need a victory this weekend to be completely back on track. If Juande comes out and starts saying ‘We are back in form and back into the league’ then the teams feels complacent and problems arise yet again. Let’s face it, Steaua isn’t the cream of the crop in teams, and neither was Levante. But Valencia are a great side and it will be quite the game this weekend at the RSP. (note my desire to no longer spell the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuan)
–The highlight of my day was reading on sevillafc.com that this weekend’s game against Valencia would be the 888.com GAME OF THE CENTURY MENUDO PARTIDAZO!!!! OMFG!!
The highlight of this short, yet informative article was ”No faltarán regalos, como los balones que se lanzarán al público.” (They won’t be short of gifts, like balls that they will shoot out to the crowd”)
Really?? Free Balls??? I’m there. What’s next? Here come the Sevilla ‘Starting XI’ animadoras!!! (cheerleaders en Español). Personally, the girls in Sevilla are the finest in all the land, and a cheerleading squad should become necessary.
I wonder if the ‘Fan Man’ will make an appearance at the Sánchez Pizjuan?

(remember he flew into the Evander Holyfield-Riddick Bowe fight in 1993 and was dragged out of the ring and beaten to a pulp by fans)
–Something I completely missed out on during my recap of the Steaua game was Luis Fabiano scored in the 16th minute of play (16 being Antonio Puerta’s number) Juande’s plea to fans to change the ‘minute of silence’ during each 16th minute was answered as now fans cheer as loud as they can and chant ‘Puerta, Puerta’ during the minute.
A fitting tribute that Luis Fabiano scored during it’s debut.
