Noticias Del Día–Mucho Sevilla, My Interview, Copa del Rey, Go Bucks
By: Ryan | January 7th, 2008Here you have it Sevillistas, your Noticias del Día!
—¡Mucho Sevilla! The Sevilla derby was nothing more than a one-sided game with Sevilla coming out on-top 3-0. AS called it ‘A One-Colored Derby’
A brace by Luis Fabiano gives him 12 goals in La Liga this season and keep him at the top of the Pichichi standings. Really it should have been only one goal as the other was a clear handball that would have made Maradona proud. He came out and said that it wasn’t as bad as Agüerro’s, and is trying to avoid getting a bad wrap for his handball goal. I don’t blame the guy. Do you really think he should have stopped and said it was from a handball? Maybe morally yes, but it doesn’t happen that way. This is when you either blame the ref incessantly, or you bring in video replay and ONLY use it for goals. End of story.

More Sevilla goodness after the Jump
Things I noticed from the game
If you are going to have a big game in Spain, PLEASE put Ray Hudson on the game GolTV. The guy announcing our game couldn’t even speak English, not that I care, but really now, put your prime time announcers on the prime time games. That Madrid game was a waste for Ray Hudson.
It’s now affirmed that Jesus Navas and Dani Alves are the best right side in ALL of football at the present moment. That pair makes the left side of opposing teams look absolutly silly. They dismantled Betis all night, with one of LuisFa’s goals coming from a pin-point cross by Alves and the other by an Alves freekick (albeit deflected in front of the net).
Diego Capel simply gets better and better every match. God he’s good.
Luis Fabiano looked incredibly strong in this game. He played excellent upfront and carried this Sevilla team to victory. He said on Sevilla’s website that he wasn’t looking to win the Pichichi this season, but now he’s going to fight for it.
I can say I wasn’t too impressed with Kanouté. He missed a gift in the first half and then seemed to disappear in the second half. Not much out of the Mali international yesterday.
Chevantón got some more playing time again. This time he wasn’t able to net one, in fact he missed a few sitters of his own. He did see playing time, nonetheless, which makes me wonder if his times in Sevilla are really numbered, or if we may see him called upon with Kanouté leaving for the African Cup of Nations.
My Sevillista del Dia
Luis Fabiano for simply putting in two goals and being the Pichichi. Most of the Sevilla players had an outstanding game, but as my 9th grade English Teacher Mr. Welanowski used to say ‘He’s just like a farmer, outstanding in his field’.
—On Friday, I am going to be interviewed on a show called ‘Sevillistas por el mundo’ hosted by Jesus Alvaredo. This show is broadcast on Sevilla FC Radio, which can be accessed here. I’ll be on to talk about having one of the two Sevilla blogs hosted in English (the other being Rafa’s), how I became a Sevilla fan, and all sorts of other things as well. The interview will be in Spanish, but I’ll make sure to post what went on here, and I’ll try to record it as well.
— The next big thing on the horizon is a clash with the Cules on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey Round of 16. What a match up in this round. I want to see if we’ve really changed our ways and are ready for this game, or if we are going to go back into our defensive shell against Barcelona. Hopefully we play our normal attacking football that has been helping us move along in La Liga (now only one point behind Valencia, who drew 0-0 against LEVANTE!!).
Barcelona have an amazing team this season. They are especially dangerous with Eto’o back in the lineup and some Argentinian by the name of Messi. But I wonder if this team will fall to the wayside the same way Madrid did during the Galaticos era.
I’ve been wondering if Jimenez is going to pull out all the shots, or if he is a bit more worried about La Liga right now. Look for some changes in the team to give some players a break (possibly Adriano in the midfield for Capel, even though that would be stupid). We’ll see tomorrow when the team sheets come out.
—I couldn’t end this post today without throwing something up about my Buckeyes, who will be taking on LSU tonight in the National Title game. I complete posted at Center Holds It, but figuered if I did it on here I might be slaughtered by some Brits.
Simply put.
GO BUCKS!!!

OOOH can’t wait for your interview post Ryan!
My MotM in the derby was Alves - pure class!
Vamos Sevilla - I know you can beat the Cules midweek!
It will be interesting to see the impact of the African cup of nations on the team from Nervion. Climbing up the table and soon to pass Los Ches.Posted from
