Noticias Del Día–En Breve–Interview, Copa Del Rey, No Strikers, ‘Antonio Jimenez’, Capel for National Team, Viva España
By: Ryan | January 11th, 2008Hola Sevillistas! Here is today’s Noticias del Día (in brief!)
—My interview with Jesus Alvarado is still a go. It starts today at 1:00pm. I’m going to record it and upload it here when I get a chance. The link is here. And then click ‘Haz Click Para Escucharnos’
—The Copa Del Rey game was something to watch. Obviously you know it was a 1-1 draw, but Capel again preformed brillantly, while Chevantón really should have had at least one goal, or maybe even two. The ref was completely incompetent, calling terrible fouls for both Barça and Sevilla. The return leg in the Camp Nou is next Wednesday, the 16th.
—This weekend against Athletic Bilbao, we will be only with one striker, Chevantón. Our normally formidable attack is depleted with both Kanouté, and Koné out on international duty, Luis Fabiano is out due to yellow cards, and now Kerzhakov is injured. We’ll be bringing up Juanjo, a striker from Sevilla Athletico to help in the attack. Who knows that formation Manolo will use on Sunday.
—Speaking of Jimenez, after the Barcelona game, AS.com had in it’s headlines ‘Antonio Jimenez’ instead of ‘Manolo Jimenez’. What a shame. It’s bad enough we get dogged by MARCA, but AS.com normally gives us a fair shake. You don’t think you would ever see Rijkaard’s name spelled wrong?
—With Diego Capel terrorizing Right Backs and Midfielders all over La Liga and the world this season, The old man Aragonés has given him a look for Euro2008. Capel is naturally left-footed, something that Aragonés doesn’t have in abundance. His football this year has been exceptionally strong and is one of the reasons that Sevilla has had quite the purple patch lately, unbeaten in their last 8 games.
—And finally, the real big news out of Spain today, The National Anthem of Spain (aka The Royal March) now has words. . There was a cry from most of the olympic athletes that hated when they stood at the podium after winning a medal but had nothing to sing. The search was spearheaded after Alejandro Blanco, the President of the Spanish Olympic Committee heard the Liverpool fans singing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ at Anfield and decided that the Marcha Real should have words.
So here are the words now, with the song to go along with it.
¡Viva España!
Cantemos todos juntos
con distinta voz
y un solo corazón.
¡Viva España!
Desde los verdes valles
al inmenso mar,
un himno de hermandad.
Ama a la Patria
pues sabe abrazar,
bajo su cielo azul,
pueblos en libertad.
Gloria a los hijos
que a la Historia dan
justicia y grandeza
democracia y paz.
