Kanouté inks with Sevilla until 2010
By: Ryan | August 13th, 2007
Fredi Kanoute, has signed a new contract with FC Sevilla, keeping him with the club until 2010. Sevilla used his retention clause in his contract and will keep him in Sevilla with a 25 million Euro pricetag.
Kanoute has been a stud for Sevilla the last two years after coming over from a disappointing run in the EPL with Tottenham Hotspur.
He was far and away the best forward for Sevilla, netting 21 goals last season alone, finishing second to Rudd Van Nistelrooy last season for the coveted Pichichi (the leading scorer in Spain). His passion and knack for scoring have made him one of the most popular players in Sevilla.
He is also back from a bit of an injury and will be playing on Wednesday against AEK Athens in the Champions League third round.
This signing gives Sevilla an excellent striking core with Luis Fabiano, Chevantón and Kanouté all upfront and able to share the load. Renato can also come forward to strike, and don’t forget Kerzkahov either.

Also, the only doubt for Wednesday’s game lies with Julien Escudé, who is recovering nicely from a injury to his pubis. Sevilla won’t rush to have him ready for Weds game, but he will be looking to be back come the start of the La Liga season.

Oh that he is, I was so happy when they brought him in 2 years ago and now they are keeping him.
Sevilla will be a force this season.

I had a tiny bit of hope that Lyon could lure him over. Oh well, it was a nice fantasy while it lasted.
