Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse…
By: Anthony | November 8th, 2008Sorry Sevillistas but I was on a mini holiday with limited internet access and that’s why I didn’t write this post a few days back, but of course I still caught the UEFA Cup game. So what do you want first? The good news or the bad?
OK, good news it is. A bunch of Sevillistas went down for the game and at time were heard singing over the Standard fans. Not good enough? Well sorry but that’s as good as it got on the night unfortunately.
Now to the bad news, which there’s a hell of a lot of it so please brace yourselves. Firstly, the team was terribly unorganized and it looked like some scrappy play you see when you’re watching 5 year old kids and they all run in a pack, extremely sloppy and a horrible match to watch overall. Secondly, we lost 1-0 to an incredibly impressive Standard team who was the better team on the night by miles. We didn’t go without our chances though as Jesús Navas showed us his acrobatic side and hit a spectacular scissors kick only for it to be cleared off the line by the Standard defender.
This is our fourth consecutive defeat and it also means we’ve lost in all 3 competitions in as many games, first to SD Ponferradina in the Copa del Rey, then Valladolid last weekend in the league, and now Standard in the UEFA Cup. Things aren’t going well in Nervión at the moment and the major signings of the summer like Romaric and Konko aren’t proving to be worth while. Romaric was supposed to be the rock in our midfield but so far the only thing he has done is score that one goal in our 2-0 win over Stuttgart. Jiménez has a problem, we need to resolve this quickly before this turns into one huge nightmare.
Tomorrow we play Recreativo de Huelva at home in another Andaluz derby which is seriously a must-win game or else we might see ourselves along with Betis *shudders* at the bottom of the table. Or not, we definitely have the quality, we just need to get our act together, fast…
So just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse after our loss to Valladolid in which we at one point lead by two goals to nil, they have got worse, a lot worse in fact. The pressure is on, a win against Recre is an absolute must as we travel to Getafe the week after before we get set to face Valencia, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and then Villareal consecutively in the four “Jornadas of death”. We better bag the points while we still can as they might be scarce in the coming weeks.
