Injuries, Bad timing, and Compensation
By: Anthony | October 12th, 2008Man do I ever hate international breaks. Every time our talented squad go to serve for their respective countries it is almost inevitable that a couple of them will come back with an injury or two. The latest victims that have fallen to international duty are Chevantón, Kanouté, and possibly also Drago although we are still waiting confirmation on how serious the injury may be.

Cheva who came on in the last few minutes for Uruguay in their 2-1 defeat to neighbours Argentina ended the game with pain in his knee, the same one that was operated on last season. Kanouté suffered a muscle strain and will undergo tests when he arrives back in Nervión to see how long he will be out, if any. Whilst playing for Serbia over the weekend Drago has apparently fractured his bicep.. How he did that is beyond me, never actually knew you could fracture a bicep… Anyhow, he is going for a scan tomorrow in Serbia for a more accurate assessment of the injury and if it will keep him from playing next weekend for Sevilla.
All of these injuries may not seem serious and possibly only keep the players out for one or two games maximum, but they come at a time where Adriano and Diego Capel are also injured and are doubtful for the clash next weekend at Almería. I guess it may not be such a bad thing considering Renato is back who can play up front in place of Kanouté and Cheva, and in place of the injured Adriano and Capel will probably be Acosta who has looked extremely lively and energetic from the 2 games he’s played so far. Also in place of Drago, if the injury does keep him sidelined that is, we can play Navarro who usually starts anyway.
Almería is a tricky opposition who have so far been impressive this season. Sitting in sixth place with 11 points, only 3 less than us, are the surprise of the season who at one time were right up there with Valencia and Villareal. They play some good fútbol and could definitely be a threat if we dont get off to a good start considering all the players that will be absent for us next weekend.
In other news, Diego Capel as you all know is injured, and it has just been released that he is officially going to be out for one month because of the groin strain he endured during a training session. Huge blow for us, but considering Adriano’s current form we shoud be fine.. that is hoping he isn’t injured for much longer either. Finally, the parents of Antonio Puerta are going to sue Sevilla for €240,000 in compensation for their son’s tragic death, claiming they relied on his income to survive and are now enduring hard times because they are receiving no income. This should all be covered by Sevilla’s insurance policy seeing as it is not a huge price to pay considering what happend and I hope to God that they just give his family the money so this situation can come to a close and his soul can finally rest in peace.
