Barça 4-0 Sevilla; “Plain and Simple”
By: Anthony | April 23rd, 2009
Question of the day:
How do you stop a team like Barcelona?
Answer of the day:
You don’t.
What can I say really? Barcelona were on a whole other level compared to us and their emphatic win was well deserved. I was frustrated up until an hour ago with our squad and their inability to perform last night but then realized that Barça is simply too good. Not are they only better than us, but it’s quite evident that they’re the best team in Europe right now. I actually thoroughly enjoyed watching them play football, it’s a beautiful sight to see.
Barcelona deserves credit where credit is due and in all fairness to them they totally outclassed us and were just an all around class act. No excuses for us but if anyone has ever seen us play before then you would know that the team didn’t exactly show up either. Not taking anything away from the Catalans, but also putting it out there that we probably didn’t give them a run for their money like we potentially could have.
I’m not going to drag this post on for ever and ever nor am I going to criticize Jiménez or any member of the squad. I believe the score line speaks for itself and we have to now pick ourselves up from the ground, realize that we got beaten by a much better side, brush our shoulders off, and go smash the mierda back home this weekend in Nervión.
The loss yesterday now means that fourth place Valencia are only 2 points back of us for that third Champions League spot but that could all potentially change this weekend when we take on high flying Real Madrid back home in the Andalucían capital. Sure, we may have got hammered by a near-perfect Barça side but I have no doubts that we can beat Real in front of our passionate Sevillistas when we’re in El Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.
Fredi Kanouté was rested for half of yesterday’s match and will be back in action come the weekend and both Adriano and Palop will be back after serving their suspensions for disciplinary problems.
The match against Real won’t only be important to keep our third place in the league but we absolutely need to win as a gesture of a slap in the face to Juande Ramos for bailing on us earlier last year. If you have read any of my previous posts regarding the club from the capital you will know I hate them with a passion, I can’t stand a single thing about them. Their arrogant fans, boring style of football and their constant luck make me just fume with anger every time I even hear their name or see their jersey. A sevillista win will also probably signal the date where Madrid is no longer a contender to win the league – something I definitely would love to see, Barça deserves it much more.
I’ll have more mierda bashing in my upcoming preview, but as for now Sevillistas, keep your heads up because we support a real club with only good things to come. ¡¡Vamos Campeónnnnn¡¡

love the mierda bashing and allow me to join in: they suck!
yeah! AS recently said something regarding their 16 wins of 17 matches to the effect of: “they are the definition of minimalism. too bad they’re not playing well…because they’re making history [winning 16 of 17].”

I think you should be criticizing Jimenez for his lineup. Maresca and Romaric as the two central midfielders against Barca? Are you mad?
And the ‘mierda’ bashing is so great aaron. We suck so much that we are in second place. I guess that means Sevilla sucks even more because they are in third place.

good post, and i totally agree with all points. it’s a bummer and all that we lost, especially just now as the season closes down and everything gets tight for us, but what a team to lose to. i can easily say that no team has ever given me so much joy just to watch. i love their style, their attitude, their work rate…sevilla is my team, the team i’m most emotionally invested in, and whose victories make me happiest and losses make me saddest. but watching barcelona play is pure joy, plain and simple. i don’t even care if they win the champions, bc to me they are clearly the greatest team in europe by miles, EXCEPT that i want them to just humiliate whatever english teams cross their path, for the sake of beautiful soccer and for the pride of la liga.
sorry to write a love letter to barca on here, but…yeah–it’s just hard to feel bad about losing to them, even if we didn’t bring our best game, and even if we needed the points, or even just A point.

corey, your comment gave me a good laugh. I got LOL all over myself, in fact! somehow the fact that your rebuttal to “they win, but are boring” is “we don’t suck–YOU SUCK! WE WIN MORE THAN YOU!!!” strikes me as perfectly madrileño. congrats, you’ve found the club for you! I assume you enjoy watching 1-0, grind it out victories, so just be happy with your team and don’t be so sensitive.

corey, why so serious? you should have thrown it right back at me: AS would have said the same thing about my mierda bashing, “minimalist and uninspired.” and jeremy: LOfuckingL. best post in years!
